Christ the Redeemer
(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
In my first visit to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1991 and a stay of about
45 days. In view of this, I presented some experiences.
Rio de Janeiro:
Rio de Janeiro - well known for
the beauty of its beaches and of its peaks, ridges, and hills. Climate is generally tropical, hot, and humid. Cultural life of Rio de Janeiro has many prestigious artistic,
literary, and scientific institutions.
Heitor da Silva Costa:
The man you are referring to is Brazilian civil engineer Heitor da
Silva Costa (1873–1947). He won the 1924 Catholic Church competition to design
the monument and is universally recognized as the primary engineer,
constructor, and project supervisor behind Rio de Janeiro's iconic Christ the Redeemer statue.
Christ the Redeemer:
The statue of Christ the Redeemer, on Mount Corcovado, Brazil, under the supervision of Mr. Silva Costa. The construction began in 1926
and completed in 1931.
Description:
· The foundation stone of the base was ceremonially laid on April 4, 1922.
The statue of Christ the Redeemer stands on Corcovado Hill 2,310-foot
(704-metre) summit.
· The statue
98 feet (30 metres) tall.
· Its horizontally outstretched arms spanning 92 feet (28 metres)
· The statue
sits on a square stone pedestal base
about 26 feet (8 metres) high.
· After its completion, the statue was dedicated on October 12, 1931. In
order to reach the statue itself, tourists climbed more than 200 steps as the
last stage of the trip. Escalators and panoramic elevators were added beginning
in 2002.
